About tartans

The first printed illustration book of tartans was published in 1886 by James Grant: "The tartans of Clans of Scotland".

"The earlier books had use illustration colored by hand or drawn with a complicated contraption of parallel rulling pens" (J. Charles Thompson).

The illustration above refers to the Stewart, Prince Charles Edward tartan.
